Dr. Johnson then practiced in a large mixed animal emergency practice in upstate NY for 2 years working with cats, dogs, cows, horses, goats, and pocket pets. In April, 2005, she joined Help The Cats, a charitable organization that provides spay & neuter services for feral cats based out of Perry, New York. She brought her spay/neuter clinic experience to the table and a shared concern for the rural feral and stray cats lovingly called “the forgotten ones”. It was Dr. Johnson’s vision to see that these animals were given at least one chance in their lifetime at quality veterinary care. Dr. Johnson then spent 3 years in small animal practice in Waxhaw, NC before purchasing Sardis Animal Clinic, now known as Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital of Charlotte. She enjoys internal medicine, surgery, and client education, and has a passion for veterinary medicine and the animals with which she works. She is looking forward to providing veterinary care to our clients in the Charlotte, Matthews, Weddington areas. On a personal note, Dr. Johnson and her husband Eric have two beautiful sons, Aiden and Nathan as well as many four-legged furry children. The menagerie of furry children include: 2 energetic dogs (Kaia and Kane), 4 sassy cats of various ages (Midas, Lilly, Matty-Sue, and Mojo), and 2 horses (Jackie and Shiloh) which they enjoy riding and caring for.
Dr J, as she is known at the clinic, is often referred to by both clients and staff as the “Cat Whisperer” has a special interest in feline medicine and behavioral problems, as well as veterinary geriatrics and rehabilitation. She enjoys seeing the bond between animals and their humans, and learning about the “specialness” of each pet. Dr. J has volunteered for spay and neuter programs for feral cats, and supports protection of endangered species. She is excited about working at Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital of Charlotte where she can provide quality veterinary care for clients in Charlotte, Weddington, Matthews, and Monroe, Her personal interests include horseback riding, martial arts, and dabbling (badly) at painting. She and her husband Mike live with their cats and fish .
Although she finds all aspects of veterinary medicine to be exciting and rewarding, she has a special interest in surgery, dentistry and parasitology. In her free time she enjoys ice cream, motorcycles, gardening, and the warm, sunny weather. Currently residing in South Carolina, she shares her home with her husband Charlie, her Great Dane Titan, and four crazy cats, Target, Zooloo, Rainman, and Michelin. She continues to dedicate herself to her veterinary career, ensuring the health and wellbeing of your loving pets.
